Weight Loss  Concepts

Dr. Brian N. Hardy offers you an approach that helps you lose weight and keep
it off while improving your overall health and fitness.

It is essential to understand the factors that went into creating a weight problem in each person, because weight gain is never caused by one thing alone and no two people have exactly the same underlying factors.

For example, weight gain is often the outcome of an underlying physiological problem, whether it is poor liver and digestion function, blood sugar imbalance, food sensitivities, adrenal stress, thyroid disorders or emotional stress.

There are several factors that may be present and need to be addressed in losing weight, this information is to educate you and is not necessary to follow with the weight loss program.

Healthy Eating

Eat a wide variety of foods within your food plan and try to avoid eating the same foods every day.

Ø      Always eat protein with every meal and even with snacks, do not eat carbohydrates

Ø      Eat at least three meals a day, following a regular meal schedule and whenever possible, eating at the same times each day.

Ø      Eat only whole, natural foods, avoiding processed, canned, preserved, packaged synthetic, artificially colored foods or foods processed with hormones.

Ø      Begin each day with three cups of water, but avoid drinking liquids with meals and never have cold drinks; to do so dilutes the digestive juices in your stomach, making it more difficult for your body to assimilate the foods you have consumed.

Ø      Whenever possible drink only distilled or purified water. If drinking distilled water make sure that you are taking a multi-mineral supplement.

Ø      Do not eat hydrogenated oils, partially hydrogenated oils or fat substitute products

Ø      Consume only fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables

Ø      Avoid commercial salts and use celtic sea salts

Ø      Avoid refined sugar and artificial sweeteners such as saccharin, splenda (sucralose) and aspartame (nutrasweet, equal).

Ø      For artificial sweeteners use xylitol, stevia or Lo Han

Ø      Increase fiber in your diet

Nutrient Deficiencies

Ø      A deficiency in one or more essential nutrients may be interfering with your

weight-loss goals.

Ø      A deficiency can cause an imbalance that increases appetite and slows metabolism, both of which lead to fat storage.

Ø      Include a multivitamin, multimineral and amino acids in your diet

Digestion

Many overweight individuals suffer from impaired digestion and long term deficiency of enzymes, the proteins necessary for digestion to take place.

When your digestion is not functioning properly, your body weight will almost certainly be out of balance.

If proteins, fats and other foods aren’t being digested properly in your stomach and intestines, they tend to get stored as fat throughout the body.

Poor digestion and infrequent bowel movements (less than 1 per day) can contribute to weight gain

At the simplest level, weight loss can be a natural outcome of cleaning the colon because the accumulated waste is solid and has weight.

Exercise

Ø      Exercise – Starting to exercise is an absolute necessity for any long-term weight loss program. Watching what you eat and getting enough physical activity to burn off excess calories is the key to good health and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Ø      Exercise does not have to be strenuous. Low to moderate exercise such as taking the stairs, walking or gardening can produce health benefits. It is also important to incorporate some type of resistance exercise such as lifting weights. By lifting weights this will build muscle mass and reduce fat mass.

Ø      Exercise is important for long-term weight management because it speeds metabolism and preserves lean muscle.

Ø      Before beginning any exercise program, consult your physician

 Emotional Stress

Ø      Getting at the real sources that are driving you to gain weight may be one of the greatest challenges of achieving a healthy body weight. Many individuals who look inside themselves for the answers discover that they have been struggling against a buried emotional conflict.

Ø      Unresolved or unexpressed emotional issues may be driving you to food cravings and bingeing. Any attempts at weight loss will prove unsuccessful until these issues are resolved.

Ø      People that are overweight may be using food as a tranquilizer or a reward or a substitute for affection. Other people eat because its something to do when they’re bored or to turn themselves into a fortress against the world.
